Awarded Best Cheddar in its class and Best Cheddar of Canada's prestigious British Empire Cheese Show in 1998 and 1999. Village Grand Champion Cheddars represent the very best cheddar available anywhere, achieving a grade of 95 - 100 points, thus qualifying them as "show quality".

AT THE CANADIAN CHEESE GRAND PRIX


dwight johnson On May 25, 2000 --- Dairy Farmers of Canada unveiled the 16 champions of the 2nd Canadian Cheese Grand Prix. The contest, held in Montreal, Quebec was open to all processors of cheese made from cows milk. There are close to 200 processors in the Canadian cheese industry who make more than 100 varieties of cheese, and all where invited to enter their products.

In total, 9 cheeses from Quebec, 4 from Ontario, 2 from British Columbia and 1 from Alberta were honored.

For the second year in a row, The Village Cheese Co. has won the grand champion cheese award at Canada's top cheese judging competition, the British Empire Cheese Show.
Other ribbons won by The Village Cheese Co. in specialty cheeses included: second in hard cheese (their parmesan), fourth in semi-soft (Swiss), fourth in the German butter cheese class and first and second respectively for their flavored cheese (cheddar onion and chive).

The Village Cheese Co. located in Armstrong, is BC's first microcheese plant. The doors opened on November 24th 1998 and the very same day the company won the British Empire and Grand Champion award for the best cheddar.
